Upright, easy and steady. The one most people take for the coast roads.

1Strandhill3 routes
Surf beach under Knocknarea, with cafes on the prom.
🏄 Strandhill Coastal RideBeach village with cafés and Atlantic views. Mostly flat.
Enjoy a scenic ride from Sligo to the lively seaside village of Strandhill. Take in Atlantic views, Strandhill Beach and the impressive backdrop of Knocknarea. A great choice for a coffee or lunch stop before cycling back to Sligo.
☕ Coffee stops: Shells Café on the seafront, known for its own bread and all-day breakfast. Mammy Johnston's on Shore Road for homemade ice cream, crêpes and coffee.
📍 Worth a stop: the ruins of Killaspugbrone church, a short walk through the dunes. The beach is for looking at, not swimming: the currents here are strong.
⛰️ Strandhill & Knocknarea AdventureBeach ride, with the option to walk up Knocknarea.
Cycle from Sligo to Strandhill with fantastic views of Knocknarea and the Atlantic coast. Enjoy Strandhill Beach, stop for coffee or lunch, and optionally continue to the Knocknarea walking area. Lock your bike securely before hiking: the mountain trail is for walking, not cycling.
☕ Coffee stops: eat in Strandhill before the climb: Shells Café on the seafront, or Mammy Johnston's for ice cream and crêpes.
📍 Worth a stop: the Queen Maeve Trail to the cairn on top of Knocknarea. On the way home, Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery adds only about 2 km and has a visitor centre.
🌊⛰️ Strandhill, Culleenduff & Knocknarea LoopBeach, seals and quiet lanes around the mountain.
A scenic loop from Sligo to Strandhill Beach, continuing through the countryside around Culleenduff and Knocknarea before returning to Sligo. Enjoy Atlantic Ocean views, quiet country roads and fantastic views of Knocknarea along the way.
☕ Coffee stops: Shells Café or Mammy Johnston's in Strandhill, early in the loop.
📍 Worth a stop: Culleenamore strand, where seals haul out on the sandbanks at low tide. Stay off the sands on a rising tide: it can cut parts of the beach off.
2Rosses Point2 routes
The Waiting on Shore statue, the Metal Man and two beaches.

A relaxed coastal ride from Sligo to Rosses Point with beautiful Atlantic views, beaches and plenty of opportunities for a coffee or photo stop.
☕ Coffee stops: The Little Cottage Café, on your right as you ride into Rosses Point, for home baking and sea views. Harry's Bar on the seafront serves pub food later in the day.
📍 Worth a stop: the Waiting on the Shore statue, the Metal Man and the beach.
🌊⛰️ Rosses Point & Drumcliffe LoopTwo coast stops and mountain views in one loop.
Combine Sligo's beautiful coastline with spectacular views of Benbulben. Cycle to Rosses Point and enjoy views across Sligo Bay, then continue towards Drumcliffe, where you can visit W.B. Yeats' grave and enjoy the impressive mountain scenery before returning to Sligo.
☕ Coffee stops: The Little Cottage Café at Rosses Point on the way out, and Pink Clover beside Drumcliffe Church (closed Sundays).
📍 Worth a stop: the Metal Man and the Waiting on the Shore statue at Rosses Point, then the high cross and round tower at Drumcliffe.
3Lough Gill & Innisfree2 routes
Yeats's Lake Isle of Innisfree, woodland roads and the Rose of Innisfree boat.
🌲 Hazelwood & Lough Gill RideShort, quiet woodland ride along the lake shore.
A relaxing ride from Sligo towards beautiful Lough Gill and Hazelwood. Enjoy peaceful woodland, lake views and the impressive backdrop of the surrounding hills. A great shorter option for a leisurely ride.
☕ Coffee stops: there's no café at Hazelwood, so bring a snack and water, or grab a coffee in town before you go. There's a picnic area by the lake at Half Moon Bay.
📍 Worth a stop: the lakeshore walking loop and its sculpture trail. Lock your bike at the car park and walk it.
🌊 Lough Gill Cycle LoopA full lap of the lake. The classic Sligo day out.
One of Sligo's classic cycling routes. Ride around beautiful Lough Gill through peaceful countryside, woodland and lakeside scenery. Highlights include Parke's Castle, Dromahair and spectacular views across Lough Gill.
☕ Coffee stops: the Riverbank Restaurant in Dromahair, about halfway round (closed Mondays). The Centra in Dromahair does coffee and deli food every day.
📍 Worth a stop: Parke's Castle, which has bike parking and is open from mid-March to the end of October. Creevelea Friary in Dromahair, and Slish Wood and Dooney Rock on the way back, with views over the lake. Take care pulling in at viewpoints on bends.
5Knocknarea2 routes
Queen Maeve's cairn on top, with views over the whole bay.

🌊 Raghly Peninsula AdventureLong, wild and exposed. For confident riders.
A longer adventure for confident riders. Cycle north from Sligo through Drumcliffe and Carney towards the wild and beautiful Raghly Peninsula. Enjoy quiet countryside, spectacular views across Sligo Bay and a real taste of the Wild Atlantic landscape before returning to Sligo.
☕ Coffee stops: Pink Clover in Drumcliffe on the way out (closed Sundays), and Jill's Kitchen at Laura's in Carney for breakfast and homemade cakes. There's nothing at Raghly itself, so carry food and water for the far end.
📍 Worth a stop: Raghly Harbour, and the views across Sligo Bay to Benbulben. An e-bike from the hire bikes above makes this one a lot more relaxed.
7Glencar1 route
The waterfall, just over the Leitrim border.
💦 Glencar & Devil's ChimneyWaterfall valley, with a climb to earn it.
Cycle from Sligo into the spectacular Glencar Valley, surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and beautiful countryside. Visit Glencar Waterfall and, if conditions are suitable, lock your bike and enjoy an optional walk towards the Devil's Chimney, Ireland's tallest waterfall.
☕ Coffee stops: the Glencar teaSHED at the waterfall car park, with toilets. It opens daily from April to October and at weekends in winter.
📍 Worth a stop: the route passes through Tormore, where the Devil's Chimney walk starts from a small roadside car park. The Chimney only flows after heavy rain, so it's best after a wet spell. The valley road has no footpath and gets busy in summer.
8Benbulben1 route
Sligo's flat-topped mountain. Best seen from the Drumcliffe road.

🚲 Before you rideHelmet, lights, lock, and check the weather.
- Always wear a helmet.
- Ride on the left-hand side of the road.
- Follow Irish road traffic rules and signals.
- Check your brakes and tyres before setting off.
- Bring water, a bike lock and a rain jacket.
- Use lights when visibility is poor.
- Keep your phone charged for navigation.
- Check the weather before longer rides.
- Café opening hours change with the seasons, so check before you set off, especially outside the summer.
- For routes with an optional hike, securely lock your bicycle and continue on foot.
- Distances are measured on Google Maps' cycling route from the shop and back. Times allow for stops. Google Maps may adjust the suggested route depending on current navigation data.
